New to Therapy? What you can expect…

It’s normal to feel apprehensive, anxious, or overwhelmed about starting therapy.
You may even feel excited to begin working on yourself. Regardless of what you
are feeling – don’t worry! We’ll walk you through every step of the way. ♡
You are Not Alone.

Many People Feel A Range of Different Emotions

about starting therapy.

common feelings about starting therapy

  • Excited
  • Ready
  • Nervous
  • Uneasy
  • Motivated
  • Scared
  • Relieved
  • Anxious
  • Reluctant

Prior to your first appointment

  1. Complete Paperwork
    • Please complete your online paperwork within 48 hours of your appointment. No printing is necessary. Your therapist needs to review your paperwork to better understand your concerns prior to your first session. If your paperwork is not complete, we cannot proceed with your appointment.
  2. Reverify Insurance Benefits
    • As a courtesy to our clients, we check your benefits prior to your first session to determine copays and deductibles. On rare occasions we’re given inaccurate information. It’s a good idea to double check your benefits as well by calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking for “mental health benefits.”
  3. Set Realistic Expectations
    • Therapy is a process that requires time, effort, honesty, and being open in order to see results. This process does not happen overnight, so be patient with yourself. ♡

what to expect during your first appointment

  1. Meet your Therapist ♡
Some people are nervous about starting therapy. Rest assured, this process is not scary! Your first appointment is an opportunity for you & your therapist to get to know each other and determine if you are the right fit. If not, we’ll schedule you with a therapist that you connect with better.
  2. Information Gathering ♡
Your therapist will ask you about what brought you into therapy, your main concerns, past history, & other relevant information. We will then discuss your therapy goals. This information helps us understand you better as a person, gives us an idea how we can best help you, and allows us to create a plan to move forward. This can take up to two sessions.

what to expect after your first appointment

  1. Starting Therapy ♡
After your first or second session, you will begin the therapy process. You & your therapist will start working towards meeting your specific therapy goals that have been outlined in your individualized treatment plan.
  2. Weekly Sessions ♡
You will meet your therapist once a week. Research shows that people who attend therapy once a week produce better outcomes than those who attend therapy every other week or less. We offer weekly therapy since it will help you make progress towards your goals, help with symptom reduction, and allow you to make necessary & meaningful changes that you desire. Infrequent & inconsistent sessions are much less effective.
